Delicious cake creations fueled by Harry Potter and Stephen Fry? That’s exactly how our long-standing fabulous supplier, Ali the Cake Lady of Harrogate makes Fodder Kitchen cakes.
“Whenever I tell people I supply Fodder, the first thing they mention is that they love the Fodder cakes!”
Ali’s home-based kitchen is in central Harrogate, just off Cold Bath Road.
“I make around 40-55 cakes per week. Monday is my lay in morning, and my customers can place their orders up to 10.30am in the morning, then I plan what I need to make for the next two days. I bake the cakes during the day and go to bed at 7.30-8pm at night. My alarm goes off at 1am, and I immediately start decorating my cakes”

“I decorate, box them up and load the car and start delivering at 7am in the morning. The cakes that arrive at Fodder on a Wednesday, will be made on a Monday afternoon or a Tuesday, so they’re the freshest cakes you can get, just like you would when baking for your family at home.”
“When I’m baking or decorating, I always have Harry Potter audio books read by Stephen fry. I think it’s because it’s something familiar read by a lovely voice. And I find this really helps me block out everything and focus on the cakes.”
“There are over 60 flavours of cakes that I make at home, but Fodder customers love my Toffee Apple Crumble and the Maltesers cake. And there’s a Skinny Blueberry and Lemon which people love because its sharp and summery.”
“I started working with Fodder around 6 months after Fodder opened. I brought a chocolate cake and sticky ginger cake (one of my best cakes) into meet the team, and I’ve been delivering one or twice a week since!”

“I won’t use any ingredients that I wouldn’t feed my family. I use local eggs, milk, vanilla paste, it’s all ingredients that your grandmother would know. That’s what it’s all about for me. I have a friend with a farm who I get my eggs from, and I know the hens are happy. I go once a week to collect my eggs, and I even have specific hens that I get my eggs from. You can’t get any fresher or better than that.”
“Something I’ve been working on is a chocolate cake inspired by the viral pistachio chocolate! I’ll be delivering the first one to Fodder this week!”
