Happy pigs and great produce. That’s at the very heart of what Anna’s Happy Trotters in East Yorkshire do every single day.
Owned and run by fourth generation farmers, the Longthorp family first started as arable farmers but soon diversified into pig farming thirty years ago to make better use of the grain and straw they were producing. They instantly knew they had a great product, and felt it was only fair to celebrate that by sharing with customers far and wide!

“At any one time we’ll have about 3,000 pigs and we feed them a mixture of wheat, barley and sustainably sourced soya. They’re free-range throughout their whole lives, which makes them unique as only 1-2% of pigs are fully free-range from start to finish in the UK. The breeds we use are specific for outdoor rearing and their meat has intramuscular fat which makes them high quality and enhances the flavour, making them truly unique.”
“We’ve been supplying Fodder from the beginning in 2009. The butchers buy in whole carcasses and do the breaking down of the pig in the shop. They also do loins and middles, and Fodder cure their own middle and back bacon.”
“It’s a really difficult time for farming at the moment, so the small supply chains like Fodder are even more important because they’re supporting farmers and paying farmers a fair price. It really means a lot to the farming community.”
“I’m on the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS) council and the Future Farmers of Yorkshire, which is supported by YAS, so if I’m ever in the area I’ll always pop into Fodder!”

Fodder is proud to be supporting local farmers like Anna Longthorp, and we’re passionate about celebrating the best Yorkshire produce. If you’re ready to taste Anna’s free-range pork, be sure to visit our butchery counter and chat with our expert butchers about finding your perfect cut.
