Lister’s Crisps: A True Taste of Yorkshire

Lister’s Crisps first launched in 2019 when Yorkshire farmers Tom and Laura Platt decided to take their passion for potatoes to the next level. Based on their arable farm in Howden, East Yorkshire, they saw an opportunity to diversify and create something special; a perfect hand-cooked crisps made right on the farm, using their very own potatoes – something they are proud to have achieved.

“Tom and I come from a long line of farmers; we’re third and fourth generation. Alongside potatoes, we grow a variety of arable crops including wheat, barley, oats, and oil seed rape, as well as having our own herd of beef cattle. But potatoes have always been Tom’s true passion. We set out to create the perfect crisp and we genuinely believe we’ve done it!

“The Lister’s Crisps journey hasn’t been without its challenges, we launched just before the pandemic, which slowed things down initially. But the past few years have been fantastic, we now offer six bold and delicious flavours that really pack a punch, and we’re proud of the growth we’ve achieved.

“From day one, Lister’s Crisps has been a family affair, when we launched the brand, I was working as a womenswear buyer. But during maternity leave with our daughter Autumn, I became increasingly involved in the business and I haven’t looked back since! I now lead operations and sales, while Tom focuses on production and the farm.

“What truly sets us apart from other brands is our farm-to-crisp approach. We grow all our own potatoes, and we cook and package the crisps right here on the farm. Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, our food miles are incredibly low, and we use Yorkshire-sourced ingredients wherever possible.

“With demand continuing to grow the business is on the move. Later this year, we’re expanding into a larger factory, which will give us the space to grow and experiment with exciting new flavours.

“We’ve been proudly supplying Fodder since 2020. We’ve seen a real uplift in demand since their refit earlier this year. Our 150g share bags are especially popular with our Cheddar Cheese & Onion a particular favourite with Fodder customers.

“We love working with Fodder. As a business that champions local farmers and Yorkshire producers, they’re perfectly aligned with our values. We’re thrilled to see our crisps on their shelves and even more thrilled to be part of a community that truly supports local producers.”
