Organic September

We were recently invited to The Organic Pantry open day to celebrate #OrganicSeptember and have a good old nosey around the farm!

The day started with tea (obviously!) and delicious Organic chocolate biscuits from their farm shop, followed by a farm walk. Freddie took us around the fields, farm and various polytunnels showing us their home grown produce and explaining about the organic farming methods they use to get the most out of the land and the crops. He explained the great care and attention the plants receive in order to thrive, from stringing up vine tomatoes to clipping shoots to ensure energy is delivered to the right part of the crop. Everything here is hand-picked and loaded into a trailer on the back of a quad bike ready to be “processed” (put into veg boxes ready for delivery).

The 300-acre farm set between Boston Spa and Tadcaster has been certified organic since 1999 when the family decided to transition from pig farming to growing organic fruit and vegetables.

The Organic Pantry are also part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, helping to conserve and restore wildlife habitats through set aside and hedges. This means the farm has an abundance of wildlife, bees, insects and over 12 different types of butterflies. This in turn helps to pollinate the crops.

We are proud to stock seasonal organic veg from the organic Pantry. Look out for their fresh produce on our shelves alongside our other fabulous organic products. We love J.Stringer and Son’s Organic Porridge Oats with Acorn organic milk. Or what about Side Oven Bakery organic mueslis and granolas, why not try them with Yorg pourable organic yogurt. Don’t forget to wash it all down with a glass of Carr House Farm apple juice or enjoy a Sam Smiths Organic Lager on an evening. Delicious!
